Kids to have a say in India?s growth

india Updated: Jul 08, 2006 14:34 IST

In a path-breaking measure, about 60 children from different walks of society have prepared a set of recommendations for the Planning Commission to consider while drafting schemes for children in 11th Five-Year Plan.

We want action

• I-cards for street kids

• Punishing parents/doctor for female foeticide

• Equality in education

• Spl courts for children

• Punishing policemen for beating up a child

• Right to say ‘no’ to parents

The recommendations will be submitted by the end of this month by the All India Child Protection NGOs, a body of about 300 non-government organisations, along with other plans for the development of children.

Children also want a helpline to be set up by the government to express their views and lodge complaints regarding the violation of their rights. Also, when it comes to the protection of their rights, children don’t mind if their parents are punished.

Parents are also frowned upon when they deny children the chance to watch the TV channels of their choice or are not consulted on issues that concern them.
