In some good news for farmers, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) which ensures complete and timely payment of loans is proving to be a big succor for small farmers of Himachal Pradesh.
KCC which can be acquired from any banks or cooperative society, provides adequate financial assistance to the farmers to enable them to purchase modern agricultural appliances and adopt mechanised farming techniques.
As many as 3,11,546 KCC have been distributed to the farmers in the state till March 31, 2009, an official spokesman said in Shimla on Tuesday.
The state government is gearing up to launch a special awareness campaign from September 30 for farmers who have not received the card so far, he added.
All Deputy Commissioners and Agriculture officers have been directed to encourage farmers to procure their own KCC at the earliest so that they can avail the facilities, he said.
Keeping in view the utility of the card, the state government is contemplating to provide subsidy on fertilisation in cash through KCC, he said adding at present this subsidy is being provided to fertiliser manufacturers.
On advantages of KCC, the spokesman said there is no limitation of procuring loans irrespective of the category of crop and quantum of land holding.
The maximum loan limit for this is Rs three lakh, the spokesman said adding 25 per cent of the loan limits or Rs 50,000 which ever is less can be spent on education, illness and on essential household commodities.
