Yasir Arfaat, assistant commissioner, development (ACD), Kishtwar, died in an accident after the vehicle he was driving fell into the Chenab river, 400-meter down the Kishtwar-Sinthan road near Banderkoot, on Tuesday morning.
He was shifted to a Kishtwar hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
As per reports, the ACD was on way to Srinagar to attend a meeting from Kishtwar, where he was posted.
Reports said due to some technical faults his official vehicle that he was driving fell into the Chenab. Sources said he was travelling alone in the vehicle.
However, a doctor treating him said the ACD was accompanied by six other people, which the officials were yet to confirm.
The vehicle was completely damaged in the accident and critically injured ACD was shifted to a Kishtwar hospital.
In the meantime, J&K home minister Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo made arrangements for a chopper to shift the ACD to Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, but his condition deteriorated and he died at the Kishtwar hospital.
The body of Yasir was brought to Bhaderwah, his home town, for burial.
The home minister, deputy commissioner Kishtwar Javed Khan, officials of the rural development department and various other dignitaries rushed to Bhaderwah.
Yasir was a 2008-batch Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) officer and served in different capacities in various departments at Doda Bhaderwah and Kishtwar.
