Kitty parties are no more about bored housewives bonding over lunch, gossip and a game of tambola. These tête-à-têtes are now undergoing an ubercool makeover. A look at the new-age kitty parties rocking Delhi...

The kirtan gang

Women today don’t shy away from clubbing fun with offering prayers to the Almighty. “Aaj kal nobody has the time to come for hawans and pujas. Every one comes up with some excuse or the other not to attend them. But kirtan kitty parties are soirees where we listen to bhajans, chant and then have a sumptuous lunch,” says a member of a Vasant Vihar-based kirtan kitty. Adds another member Aarika Ahuja, “My mother-in-law accompanies me to the kitty every month. I feel it’s a great way of bonding with her over Sai Baba bhajans.”

Beauty call The Botox kitty, as it’s called, is for the bold and beautiful femme fatales of the Capital. These exclusive parties held at farmhouses (or in doctors’ clinics) around town, have 30-something women, models and even men getting themselves ‘fixed’ over a glass of wine. Nip/tuck specialists and dermatologists are present at these bashes.

Couple delight

This is a first for many. Young couples in a bid to mingle with their contemporaries from the social circuit, are enrolling themselves for ‘The Couple Kitty’. Here they play couple games, dance with their spouses and gossip over lunch or dinner. “It’s a refreshing change from the all-ladies kitty. Also, working pairs get to spend time with like-minded people this way,” says Meenu Thakral, a newly-wed housewife from Greater Kailash II. Stags allowed The city’s also waking up to men’s-only kitty parties where stags (married or single) get together on the weekend for excursions, a game of cricket or gupshup over drinks.
