WILL THE Kanpur Municipal Corporation actually earn a profit Rs 6 crore as projected in the general budget approved by its administrator and district magistrate Deepak Kumar on Friday? The answer seems to be in the negative as the KMC has to spend Rs 60 crore to the employees under various heads, including Rs 20 crore, in PF account.

The positive balance in the KMC budget, as projected by chief finance and account officer PN Singh, has actually stirred up  hornets’ nest, as the employees have again raised their voice against the alleged anti-employee attitude of the municipal commissioner Arvind Singh.

The Karamchari Samyukt Sangh convened an emergency meeting to discuss the future course of action. The sangh members decided to stage a demonstration from April 4, if their demands were not considered by the management.

The employees demanded their share from Rs 30 crore which the KMC received under various heads. It is pertinent to mention that the KMC received a grant of Rs 19.5 crore from the government. Similarly, a sum of Rs 8.51 crore was received by the KMC with Rs 2.75 crore from the State Education Department.

The Sangh leaders said despite the fact that a sum of Rs 30 crore had been received by the KMC, the municipal commissioner did not bother to pay back the employees’ dues.

They said the employees received the salary of March,-but they did not get the salary of April. Besides, the KMC had to pay 14-months’ pension and one month’s salary to the contract workers.

They also said the demands was put before the municipal commissioner but nothing was done so far.
