With less than a month to go for the campus to reopen, here’s a look at some popular fests of Delhi University’s colleges.india Updated: Jun 30, 2012 00:45 IST
With two cut-off lists of Delhi University (DU) already out, you must have chosen your course and college. And after the final choice, one of the things you will be wondering about might be the annual festival, or fest, of your college. From featuring rock competitions, jam sessions and dance contests to offering food options galore, the fest is the most sought after event of the campus. We tell you all about the most popular fests of the varsity.
Kamala Nehru College
Name of the fest: Ullas
This two day fest is famous among girls for its fashion show competition, as well as for various stalls that sell junk jewellery and ethnic kurtas, and offer beading and tattoo-making. On the second day, there is a jam session that is followed by a rock band performance. “Each year, we have some celebrity coming in for the finale,” says Isha Gupta, a pass out from the college.

Hans Raj College
Name of the fest: Confluence
Such is the passion of the students of the college for their annual fest that they call it their religion. The two day long fest includes events such as the western dance competition and the War of the DJs that has the maximum footfall each year. The most sought after event of the fest is the celebrity night that has seen performances by celebrities such as Jazzy B, among others.
USP: Celebrity Night
Name of the fest: Mecca
Mecca, the four day long fest of this college, sees acts by popular rock bands and celebrities. The main competitive events of the fest include debating, choreography and western music. Make a visit to this fest for its celeb night, which has seen the likes of singer Mohit Chauhan previously. Bands such as Underground Authority and Kaash have also performed here.

Shri Ram College of Commerce
Name of the fest: Crossroads
The attractions of the four day long fest include the rock band competition (Woodstock), the fashion show (Inferno) and the gaming events that include street soccer and absolute zero. The fest is concluded by a star night, where celebs from Bollywood such as Shankar - Ehasaan - Loy enthrall the crowd. The fest also hosts a DJ night and a rock night. “It’s the best fest in the varsity. Our star night is star-studded each year,” says Gaurav Aggarwal, a former student union member.

Jesus and Mary College
Name of the fest: Montage
As the name suggests, Montage, the annual fest of Jesus and Mary College, presents a montage of various performing and non-performing arts. The two day festival has a range of events and competitions for students to display their talent. The fest sees contests such as Indian and western dance, designing, western music (Madrigal) and the choreography competition, Mudra. The fest ends with either a DJ night or a rock concert.

Name of the fest: Tempest
Tempest — the annual cultural festival of this college — is considered a must visit by every guy in the campus! Usually a three day affair, the fest hosts events like a street play competition and a documentary film contest. A must attend event at the fest is the rock night. “The choreography dance competition is the most sought after event and it goes jam packed,” says Ruchika Sharma, a student.

Sri Venkateswara College
Name of the fest: Nexus
Nexus, a three-day long fest, is known for its jam session and rock concerts that usually takes place on the last day. The first twodays of the fest see various contests like dramatics and choreography. Renowned rock bands such as Euphoria, Indian Ocean and Advaita have performed here in the past. This fest has previously crossed a footfall of over 20,000 plus.

Lady Shri Ram College
Name of the fest: Tarang
The annual college fest at LSR is known for its food carnival that offers Mexican and Italian cuisine, as well as Indian street food. “I enjoyed the food carnival at the fest last year,” says Priyanka Sharma, a student. The other things to watch out for at this fest are Yavanika and Nukkad, the stage play and street play contests respectively, and fun activities such as tattoo-making, ad-making, and poster-making. This three-day-long fest usually ends with either a rock show or a DJ night.
