Officials of the enforcement directorate (ED) will soon visit five countries to probe the corruption charges against former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and his associates.

Investigators will go to Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Sweden and Liberia. The money involved in the charges is Rs 4,000 crore. A Ranchi-based special court on Wednesday granted permission to the ED to visit the five countries.

Special Judge Pankaj Kumar also ordered issuing the relevant papers (letter rogatory) in the name of the countries so that the ED officials could seek the assistance of the judiciary there if they wanted to seek arrests of any person or attach any properties in the Koda case.

A Letter Rogatory is a formal request from a court to a foreign court for judicial assistance. Earlier, a senior ED official requested the court to issue the Letter Rogatory.
