Want to experience the heavenly abode in the lap of mother earth? This summer take a trip down to Kodaikanal (Kodai) and enjoy the cool ambience of one of the culturally rich and colourful hill station in Southern India.

Kodai is a tiny but breathtakingly beautiful hill station, which is cosily nestled some 120 kms from the hustle and bustle of Madurai city in Tamil Nadu. Here you are sure to be mesmerised by the mystique and magic of the land that is situated at an altitude of 2,133 m on the Palani Hills of the Western Ghats.

To experience the natural surroundings it is best to drive down to Kodai by road from Coimbatore or Madurai city. The drive will offer you a first hand glimpse to some of the heavenly and enchanting view of the plains.

A glimpse of the hill station

The slope of the hill has a hue of colour purple surrounding it, this is because of "Kurunji" flower that is unique to this area. Once in Kodai you will be always lured to check out the serene outdoors even at the cost of bearing the cold mist engulfing the air, but don't worry you can shield yourself from the cold mist by sipping hot tea from the local tea stalls.

Kodai is famous with the honeymooners for its romantic ambience, most of the time it drizzles here giving the place a special dreamy flavour.

Also, to add to the romantic rendezvous one can take a walk at the Coaker's walk which runs along a steep slope.

And, at Green valley you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the waters cascading from Vaigai Dam which is also famous as the lovers Suicide Point because of its sheer drop and winds.

This heavenly abode is famous for its Thoda tribe who are the oldest inhabitants of the place. They are mainly into cattle grazing and adds character to the sleepy atmosphere. If you are lucky enough the tribe will welcome you into their abode and show their humble hospitality.

Kodai is abundant with mesmerising sceneries and lakes to make you feel one  with nature.

Some of the best excursions in the area

Dolphin's Nose - A flat projecting rock from where one can have a breath taking view of the cavernous gulf below.

Here, if you are adventurous you can try out the rock climbing excursions which are very happening activities in this area.

The Perumal Peak - This is 11 kms from Kodai, is a trekkers’ delight.

Berijam Lake - This Lake is a popular picnic spot with beautiful view representing nature in full glory.

Kukal Cave - This is a favourite camping haunt for trekkers.

Some few kilometres away from Kodai, is the Silver Cascade, where you can take pleasure in your own Blue Lagoon way and experience the waterfalls; similar to this cascading experience is the Kumbakkarai waterfalls, these waterfalls are situated in the thickly wooded parts of the hill station.

The lakes at Kodai offer you an opportunity to go for a boat ride where you can paddle away to your heart's content.

Indeed Kodaikanal is the coolest gem among hill stations, a picnic spot where you can chill-out with your loved one, and indulge in its tranquillity and be one with nature.
