Virat Kohli’s killer knocks on Sunday evening did not just sweep Australia out of the World Cup T20 match. It also relegated the Uttarakhand political crisis to the back burner of social media.
BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, a key player in the Uttarakhand crisis, used to tweet with fervour about the President’s rule in the state. But last night, he sent out a series of tweets on cricket.
Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah too, shifted from politics to cricket. While his daytime tweet said :
By hook or by crook. The BJP's commitment to democracy is only so long as elections throw up BJP governments. https://t.co/cZRWGcQBrd— Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) March 27, 2016
Post-match, he put up three tweets on India’s victory.
Amazing cricket match. Well played India. Now I realise what all the fuss is about when people praise Virat Kohli as they do. Incredible!!!— Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) March 27, 2016
Shilpi Tewari, one of the BJP’s key flag-bearers in the social media, even took the opportunity to pitch for nationalism.
This is a brigade that sees United India or Nationalistic India as a political opponent. An idea that needs to be countered even in a game.— shilpi tewari (@shilpitewari) March 27, 2016
Tewari, a vocal opponent of AAP, also used another tweet on the game to score some points. She retweeted
@shilpitewari Virat Kohli is God's way of compensating Delhi for Kejriwal just like Hardik Pandya is for Hardik Patel in Gujarat.— દેવાંશી શાહ (@Devanshi137) March 27, 2016
Finance minister Arun Jaitley congratulated Team India on Monday:
“Congratulations Team India for an incredible win against Aus & storming into semifinals of T20 World Cup. Well played @imVkohli @msdhoni.”
