Goa dealt a body blow to the Konkan legend of the Alemaos, a family which had cornered four out of the 40 tickets — three from the Congress and one from ally NCP.
MLA six times, twice MP, twice the chief minister and minister for many years, including in the outgoing government, Congress leader Churchill Alemao bit the dust, as did his daughter Valanka, brother Joaquim and nephew Yuri (NCP).
In the run-up to the polls, Alemao, 62, had claimed he could win from any of the 40 seats. Goans thought otherwise.
Alemao lost in Navelim and Valanka’s launch was derailed in Benaulim. Joaquim tasted defeat in Cuncolim, while Yuri lost in Sanguem.
