Injured Formula One driver Robert Kubica will have a final operation on his elbow in Italy on Wednesday after surgery last week, his Renault team said on Monday.

“The latest update on Robert is that his condition remains positive,” the Lotus-backed team said in a statement. “He will stay in intensive care for the next couple of days to allow a complete check-up and to avoid another change of department before his final operation.

Earlier in the day however, Kubica’s fiancee said his condition had deteoriated considerably. “His state has somewhat worsened, both in regards to his physical and psychological state,” said Edyta, whose last name was not given.

Nadal maintains lead in ATP rankings
Madrid: Spain’s Rafael Nadal maintained his clear lead at the top of the ATP men’s tennis rankings issued on Monday.
There was no change in points for the leading players, with Nadal ahead of Roger Federer of Switzerland and Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
