THE VERY thought of visiting Kukrail after sunset may scare you. But soon, you may see your dream come true. Awadh Forest Division is gearing up to give you a night out in Kukrail picnic spot under the Union Government’s Rs 214.45 lakh “Destination Lucknow” project.
Proposal for the same has been sent to the Union Government for approval. The two-year project is aimed at improving facilities at Kukrail. “Our main thrust will be to improve security at the picnic spot,” said Divisional Forest Officer (Awadh) Sanjay Singh. He said the entire stretch of road from the starting point to the picnic spot would be illuminated with solar lamps. Kukrail has a lot of significance for the people of Lucknow as it is the only thick forest easily accessible to Lucknowites.
Of the Rs 214.45 lakh, Rs 147.76 lakh would be allocated to Kukrail, while the remaining Rs 66.76 lakh would be given to Musabagh, another green patch in the heart of the city. “Green hut I and Green hut II are not sufficient to cater to the needs of the visitors,” said SDO, V B Srivastava and added the green hut extension plan was also in the offing. Presently there is only one suit in Kukrail, “as a result we have included its extension plan under the project,” he said. The 8-metre watch tower is an added attraction for the bird watchers and the picnickers. The objective of undertaking the project is to invite tourists from others parts of the country and abroad. Also, the nature trail with the aim of providing an healthy atmosphere to the visitors is being improved along with the mettle road, said the DFO. “This would develop confidence among the visitors,” he added. To further ensure the safety to the visitors, a boundary wall would be constructed at least partially, said the SDO. Near the rest house a 150-metre wooden bridge has been planned to add to the beauty of Kukrail.
Earlier, it was planned to built dam- upstream and downstream across the Kukrail nallah, but owing to lack of funds the plan has to be withdrawn, said the SDO.
Even the children park has been brought under the project so that they could view wild animals. “Welded mesh will be provided top ensure the security,” said Singh. Maintenance of lawns, audio-visual briefing on nature and extension of auditorium are among other development work that would be taken up in the project.
Similar development work would be carried out in Musabagh park. The Solar lamps would be provided to illuminate the area. Canteen is also in demand in the park. Here, special emphasis would be given on providing congenial area in the park so that birds of different varities develop nests. Library, and hutment construction are other features that have been included in the project, said the DFO and the SDO.
About the project, the DFO informed that total Rs 8 crore (including Rs 1 crore from the tourism department) would be sanctioned under the project for three districts. But for Awadh Forest Division the amount earmarked is Rs 214.45 lakh.
The DFO hoped that the project would be started as soon as it was sanctioned and funds allocated.
