West Zone lost the first wicket on the second ball of the first over when a Balaji beauty uprooted the stumps even before Poojara opened his account. Laxman’s strategy was that he had four slips and two gullies and it put pressure on the batsman.

The bowlers bowled according to the field placements and did not allow the batsmen to play free strokes. After an early jolt, Dhiraj Jadhav and Rohit Sharma steadied the innings playing cautiously.  The South Zone bowlers did not get a break till the 30th over. Sreesanth bowled Rohit Sharma in the 31st over when the team score was 70. Rohit scored 41 in 87 balls with five boundaries and one six.

West Zone got another jolt when Sreesanth dismissed a well-set Dhiraj Jadhav. He edged the ball and Laxman took an easy catch. He scored 36 with four hits to the fence.

At the same score, Sreesanth dismissed Amol Muzumdar trapping him in front of the wicket. J Martin and West Zone skipper Parthiv Patel were too cautious as they had already lost their top three batmen for 79. They took the score to 100.
Anil Kumble was bowling a tight line and took his first wicket when he trapped Patel in front of the wicket for nine runs. Parthiv too failed to rise to the occasion.

J Martin too fell prey to Anil Kumble. He was dismissed for 18 runs. West Zone lost six wickets for 112 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the batsman for West Zone today.

He and Rajesh Pawar batted brilliantly. He scored 50 runs in just 45 balls. At the score of 158, West Zone lost the seventh wicket. Anil Kumble dismissed Rajesh Pawar. He was caught at short leg by Robin Uthappa for six runs.

At the score of 173, Anil Kumble dismissed Ravindra Jadeja. He was caught by Rayudu after scoring 53 with six hits fours and two huge sixes. He entertained the Indore crowd by swinging his bat.

After Jadeja’s departure, West Zone innings came to an end at 180/9 as Bahutule could not take the field due to injury. Anil Kumble took 5/42 in 18 overs. Sreesanth, who did the early damage, took 3/65 in 18 overs.

After taking 111 runs first innings lead, South Zone in their second innings could not get flying start, as Zaheer Khan dismissed their first innings hero Robin Uthappa on the last ball of the first over. Zaheer was in full form as he was moving the ball well. He was bowling from the pavilion end, which helped him a lot.

South lost their second wicket when Karthik was dismissed. Trivedi bowled a beauty and it uprooted the stumps. For the second time in the match, Karthik failed to impress the selectors. He was at the middle for 61 minutes to score just 17 runs in 45 balls with two boundaries. South skipper Laxman and Venugopala Rao batted well. Laxman was hitting the ball effortlessly.

Zaheer troubled Rao on a couple of times. At the end of day’s play, South Zone were 65/2. Laxman was unbeaten on 12 with two boundaries, while Venu was batting on 26 with three boundaries.
