A few hours after his arrest, Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh posted 12 names on his Facebook wall -- a list that included chief minister Mamata Banerjee and other party heavyweights -- puzzling the police almost as much as he delighted the opposition.

Arrested on Saturday evening for his involvement in the Saradha scam, the CEO of the group’s media arm has been charged with cheating and conspiracy and has been remanded in police custody for five days.

Ever since his name surfaced in the scam, Ghosh has been alleging that senior party leaders were involved and that he was being made a scapegoat.

On Friday, in an interview to a television channel, he named the chief minister and on Saturday morning, he wrote to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding a CBI probe.

The names he finally posted on Facebook included that of the party’s all-India general secretary Mukul Roy, MPs Suvendu Adhikari, KD Singh and Srinjoy Bose.

Party insiders, though, indicated that Ghosh’s arrest has more to do with factional feud. Ghosh, apparently, had an ongoing tussle with former MP Swapan Bose and his son Srinjay, who are among the key fundraisers for Trinamool. “When the party tried to deal with him, he indulged in further anti-party activities and infuriated the leadership,” said a Trinamool leader on condition of anonymity.

The move, though, seems to have backfired, with the opposition now pushing for a CBI probe. “The arrest of an MP is not enough, steps should be taken against all,” said CPM politburo member Surjya Kanta Mishra.

How Ghosh managed to pull off the Facebook post from custody, though, is something the police are yet to figure out. "We think someone else posted the message," said Arnab Ghosh, deputy commissioner, detective department of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
