THE MOTIVE behind the suicide of Amity University student Kunal Singh still remains a mystery, as the dying declaration (DD) has been kept confidential by the ACM.
Though Kunal’s father, OP Singh admitted about his son’s concern over recognition issue of the varsity, he did not complain about it to the Gomti Nagar police. CO Gomti Nagar, RN Singh said when the station officer (SO) asked Singh if he wanted to lodge a complaint in this regard, he refused.
None of the students, who had claimed to have recorded Kunal’s statement on their cellphones, came forward to speak during the condolence meeting held at the varsity campus on Friday. They also refused to talk to media persons on the issue. Students had alleged at the KGMU Trauma centre that Kunal had taken the extreme step, as he was depressed over studying in an unrecognised institute.
Talking to HT, E&LM Amity Lucknow campus director, Naresh Chandra said the management had already convinced the students about the recognition issue a few days ago. They were informed about the proposal sent to the UGC for getting the varsity listed in February 2006, he said. Chandra further said it was yet to be established that Kunal had committed suicide. He also denied the allegation that Kunal ended his life following discontent over the recognition issue. CO RN Singh said though no complaint was received on this issue, police would probe all possibilities in the case. Meanwhile, Kunal’s landlord, SN Mishra, Nirankar and Arun claimed to have heard a critically injured Kunal saying that he had taken the step over the recognition issue.
