Peoples Conference legislator Bashir Ahmad Dar's son died while his sibling was injured in a road accident in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.
Basharat Bashir Dar along with his younger brother Fida Hussain were on way to Srinagar when their private car collided with a minibus near Pattan, 27 kms from here, a police officer said.
Dar brothers were injured and immediately evacuated to hospital where Basharat, a lawyer by profession, was declared dead by doctors on arrival, the officer said.
Peoples Conference Chairman and Minister for Animal Husbandry Sajad Gani Lone, on hearing about the incident, rushed to Kupwara to express solidarity and sympathy with the bereaved family.
"Lone postponed all his official appointments and participated in the funeral prayer of the deceased. He visited the residence of MLA Kupwara and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul," an official spokesman said.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also expressed their grief over the demise of legislator's son and expressed solidarity with Dar and other members of his family, the spokesman said.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, his son and former chief minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the demise of Basharat while praying for peace to the departed soul.
