Wednesday is likely to bring light at the end of the tunnel for a labourer trapped for six days in a water supply pipeline that collapsed in Jhadol tehsil in Udaipur district on January 13. Officials said the condition of the labourer, Narayan Singh, 40, is normal and he is likely to be rescued by Wednesday.
The tunnel was part of a project to solve the drinking water problem of Udaipur city. Singh was working in the 3.3-km-long tunnel when it collapsed last Thursday.
District collector Hemant Kumar Gera said efforts were on to rescue Singh. A team of engineers has reached 12 metres inside the tunnel, and with the removal of three metres of debris, they would be able to reach Singh on Wednesday.
