Lalu Prasad, Nitish strive for synergy in Bihar

india Updated: Aug 18, 2014 00:55 IST

Foes turned political friends, RJD's Lalu Prasad and JD (U)'s Nitish Kumar, on Sunday sought to show their reunion was working on their second outing as political partners.

The two leaders injected synergy into their anti-BJP 'grand alliance' for the August 21 by polls for ten assembly seats in Bihar.

At their poll campaign meetings at Chapra and Mohania, the two tried to dispel the notion that their alliance was not working. "We have joined forces to take out the venom injected into India's politics by the BJP. This (RJD-JD (U)-Congress) grand alliance has been formed to save the nation", they told a gathering in Chapra.

Congress in-charge for Bihar, CP Joshi, also addressed the meeting, calling the alliance necessary to check communal forces.

"It was I who worked hard to improve the power scenario in Bihar. But, it proved to be counterproductive for us as people watching TV got influenced by the BJP media blitzkrieg", Kumar added.

RJD chief Prasad wooed Rajputs who had shifted allegiance to BJP in last LS polls. He said the saffron outfit had misled them by spreading rumours that Rajnath Singh would be the consensus PM candidate instead of Modi.

At Mohania, Nitish urged people to be united and vote for grand alliance candidate Chandra Shekhar Paswan "for development and peace".

"This (BJP) government will divide and break India. Now Mandal will confront Kamandal and the exercise has been started from Bihar," Prasad said after being offered a mike by Kumar.
