A speeding Lamborghini Murcielago crashed into a road divider near the India Gate in central Delhi on Wednesday night after the driver lost control over the mean machine.

The person at the wheel then abandoned the car and fled. The car did not have any registration number plate but police found that it is registered in the name of Better Option Propmart Pvt Ltd, a real estate company with offices in Noida and south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur. The company's directors are being questioned.

The incident was witnessed by a police constable who was on duty in the area, according to the Indian Express. The police said the driver had a narrow escape with the car’s airbags getting deployed.

“Tejpal, the police constable, claimed he saw the yellow Lamborghini, which was being driven carelessly and at a high speed, on the Outer Circle of C-Hexagon, Copernicus Marg, around 1:15 am. The car ended up hitting the pavement of a park between Copernicus Marg and Tilak Marg. The driver got down from the car and ran away,” the newspaper quoted a senior police officer as saying.

The car was brought to the Tilak Marg police station. All its tyres and the rear left portion were completely damaged.

The Murcielago has a 6-5-litre V12 engine and takes only 3.2 seconds to reach 100 kmph from a standing start. It can hit a top speed of 342 kmph.
