The incident claimed one life and left two injured. The Haryana Police had to deploy security forces in order to bring the situation under control.
According to the police, a panchayat had been convened on Tuesday to resolve the land dispute as both the sides were claiming ownership of the land in Uttashani village in Aligarh district, and were adamant on harvesting the mustard crop.
“We were told that the issue was being discussed in the Panchayat when one party suddenly opened indiscriminate fire on the other side, killing one youth on the spot,” said Ravinder Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hodal in Palwal district, Haryana.
“The relatives of the deceased rushed him and the two critically injured to Palwal hospital,” he said.
The deceased has been identified as Satyender Kumar, 22. His father Ranveer and one more villager who were injured were being treated at the district hospital in Palwal. The police said that the other side also retaliated and torched of two JCB machines, two motorcycles and a house.
“We rushed our men to the spot to control the crowd,” the DSP added.
The family members of the deceased have blamed Hemant Kumar of the same village for the firing incident.
“We have recorded statements. Post-mortem examnination of the dead youth will be done on Wednesday,” Ravinder Kumar said.
