One person died and another was critically injured in a landmine blast triggered by Maoist insurgents in Orissa on Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred near MV 96 village in Malkangiri district when two staff members of a private passenger bus were trying to clear wooden logs and bamboos put on the road by Maoists, a police official said.

The bus, loaded with passengers, was coming from the nearby MV 79 village to the district headquarters of Malkangiri. The blast occurred when bus staff was trying to clear the road, he said.

While one person died on the spot, another sustained critical injuries, he said, adding that the blast has, however, not caused any harm to the bus or its passengers.
