FORMER PRIME Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe will arrive in the City on a two-day visit on Friday. Wickremesinghe would deliver a lecture on ‘peace - putting the pieces together’ at Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I), on Friday and would be the chief guest for the annual day function of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar on December 2.
As per the schedule, the dignitary would be on a campus visit to IIM-I at Pigdamber in Rau where he would deliver the lecture at 4.30 pm in the auditorium. He will participate in the annual day programme as chief guest to be held on Sri Sathya Sai School campus, AB Road, from 6 pm on December 2.
Born on March 24, 1949, Wickremesinghe was educated at the prestigious Royal College, Colombo, and holds the unique distinction of being the only one amongst the presidents and prime ministers of that country to have graduated from a local university. Apart from being a dedicated politician, he is also a successful lawyer.
He is the youngest Cabinet minister to date in Sri Lankan history. During his tenure as Prime Minister he made a remarkable difference in the standards of economy, education and politics. He is credited with bringing about a ceasefire agreement with the LTTE rebels and initiate peace talks.
