Meghalaya Chief Minister DD Lapang has apprised Union Home Minister P Chidambaram about the problems being faced by people residing along the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border following incidents of firing by BDR recently.

"The people of Muktapur village and the areas along the border with Bangladesh in Meghalaya are in grip of insecurity due to the firing incidents which also affected them economically," Lapang told Chidambaram over phone on Tuesday, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.

Informing the Union Home Minister that villagers in the affected areas were forced to leave their homes and take shelter in safer places, Lapang requested him to take up the matter with the Bangladesh government.

Two incidents of firing between the BSF and the BDR were reported in the Meghalaya border earlier this month.
