The inordinate delay on part of the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) has helped Lavasa Corporation Ltd to receive a major reprieve from the Bombay High Court on Tuesday.
“Are you acting like dictators?” the high court asked MoEF on Tuesday while staying the November 25 order issued by the MoEF under which Lavasa Corporation was directed to maintain status quo at its Lake City in Pune district.
“Before issuing such drastic orders, it is least expected of you to state the reasons for asking some party to stop something which it is doing for years,” the division bench of Justice D K Deshmukh and Justice N D Deshpande further told the union ministry.
The court has now directed the MoEF to take a fresh decision by December 14, about the status quo after giving a chance to Lavasa Corporation to submit its say.
The construction work at Lake City, however, will not resume immediately as the subsidiary of Hindustan Construction Company voluntarily stated before the court that it would maintain the status quo for a week till December 14.
