Law & order: TVR calls on Kalam

india Updated: Dec 05, 2006 01:48 IST

AMIDST MOUNTING criticism of Mulayam Singh government in Uttar Pradesh over the law and order situation and demand for imposition of Central rule in the state, Governor T V Rajeswar today met President A P J Abdul Kalam and is understood to have apprised him of the scenario.

The meeting between Kalam and Rajeswar, which lasted for 15 minutes, came a day after the Governor had met Home Minister Shivraj Patil and briefed him about the law and order and political situation in Uttar Pradesh where fresh assembly elections are due early next year.

Rajeswar’s interaction with the leadership in Delhi assumed significance as it came against the backdrop of growing demand from political parties, including the BJP and the Congress, to impose President’s Rule ahead of assembly elections, official sources said.
