Thieves broke into the house of eminent lawyer and anti-graft activist Shanti Bhushan in Sector 43 and stole a cooking gas cylinder, a power inverter and a battery, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Friday night at Bhushan’s A-189 house. This is the same house where anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare used to stay during his campaigns.
According to police, the thieves entered the house after cutting the iron grill of the window. “We have registered the case and have started investigation. No valuables are missing. Thieves have stolen only household items,” said Praveen Kumar, senior superintendent of police (SSP).
The caretaker at the house Ram Kumar Mishra said, “We were initially suspecting that some important documents or the computer was stolen. But later, we found only household items were stolen.
Mishra said the police swung into action after an email was sent to them from the office of Prashant Bhushan. The SSP, however, said he is yet to receive the email. According to a senior police officer, the Noida police’s email ID was not functional. It started working only a few days back.
This is not the first incident when a high-profile resident has been targeted by thieves. Recently, a theft was reported in the Sector 46 house of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri’s grand son Mudit.
Mudit works with a Mumbai-based company. “Our only servant deployed at the house was not on duty at the time of the theft,” he said in the complaint.
