Work in various courts in Ghaziabad came to a halt following a strike called by the local bar association in protest against the delay in registering a case against a police officer who assaulted a lawyer.

The agitating lawyers threatened to prolong the strike if their demand of registration of a criminal case against the police official was not met. The lawyers submitted a memorandum to the district police chief and the district judge, apprising them of the incident and their future course of action.

Police sub inspector Devki Nandan allegedly slapped a local lawyer Islamuddin February 27 in front of the police office when the lawyer parked his motorcycle on a reserved spot. After the incident, the lawyer tried to lodge a complaint with the Kavi Nagar police but the case was not registered even 48 hours after the incident, bar association president Shiv Dutt Tyagi said.

However, officials at Kavi Nagar police station said a case was being registered against the police officer.
