AFTER THE Supreme Court order in connection with disqualification issue of five Loktantrik Bahujan Dal (LBD) MLAs, Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey on Saturday fixed May 2 for further hearing in the case.

Taking up the issue on Saturday, the Speaker recorded the statements of both sides. Pandey also granted time till May 2 to the five MLAs to reply.

Earlier, advocate Anupam Mehrotra appeared on behalf of LBD chief whip Yogesh Pratap Singh. A team of two lawyers — Prashant Chandra and Raghvendra Singh — appearing for the five MLAs argued the case involving several technical grounds about the disqualification. Both sides explained the High Court and apex court orders.

The five MLAs’ group said that even after the High Court judgement on February 28, the office of the Speaker had so far not released a fresh list of members of the House. They said after the HC order they were members of the BSP. They said the LBD chief whip’s move, seeking their disqualification was baseless.                      ,
