THE TRUTH about LDA’s much-touted concerted drive against unauthorised constructions in the city would be out the next week. But if the signals emanating from the other departments part of what has been billed as a joint operation are any indications, the move would be a non-starter.
After issuing a public warning to the owners of over 300 illegal buildings in the city, the LDA has forwarded the list containing their names for appropriate action to both the power corporation and the Jal Sansthan. In his May 23 letter to BB Singh, managing director Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and RK Tripathi general manager Jal Sansthan, LDA Vice Chairman BB Singh has urged them to snap the power connection and water supply to these structures.
Citing an order passed by the High Court on a Public Interest Litigation in this connection, the LDA VC said that the owners of these constructions have already been warned through advertisements in newspapers on January 3, May 13 and 14, 2006. But already there seems to be some sort of a mix-up over the number of structures in the hit list provided by the LDA. While LDA officials claimed that they have provided a list of 301 illegal structures, the Power Corporation and Jal Sansthan officials told HT Lucknow Live that they had received a list of only a dozen illegal buildings from the LDA.
“I have a report from the executive engineers in whose areas these buildings are located. We would proceed against them once we verify the information and work out the necessary modalities,” said RK Tripathi GM Jal Sansthan. On the other hand, Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran MD, BB Singh said that he had forwarded the list to LESA CGM, Krishna Gopal for necessary action. “Since a power connection is issued after relevant papers related to the property like sanctioned building plan etc are furnished by an applicant, we will move only after our officials examine the records,” said Gopal.
