Stepping up its offensive against the UPA government, the Left parties on Tuesday decided to launch a weeklong agitation from July 13 to protest against the disinvestment policy and spiralling prices of essential commodities.
Accusing the government for "messing up" its policies on these issues, the four Left parties appealed to non-Congress UPA partners to put pressure on the government to effect a change in the policies.
After a three-hour meeting, CPI General Secretary AB Bardhan said the parties have decided to launch a nationwide agitation, including demonstrations and rallies, from July 13 to 19.
"The government has messed up the whole issue," Bardhan said.
