A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator and his brother own undeclared assets worth more than Rs 10 crore, an official of the Income Tax (IT) department said on Saturday.

According to the official, JMM legislator from Giridih district Munna Lal owns undeclared assets worth Rs 10.20 crore in his name and in the names of his relatives.

IT sleuths had conducted raids at 19 places, including houses and companies run by Munna Lal and his brother Vijay Lal, on Sep 16. During the raid, they found Rs 50 lakh cash, documents of 200 acre of land, jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh and other things from Lal group of companies.

"Lal group of companies were filing return of a small amount. We raided their houses on a tip and found them amassing assets of millions of rupees," said the official.

According to the official, Munna Lal did not reveal assets worth more than Rs 10.2 crore. Also, he and his brother have flats in Kolkata and other places which they did not declare while filing income tax returns.

"Till now we have found that Lal brothers own more than Rs 10.2 crore. The further evaluation of their assets is under way," said the official.
