LESA ways: Harass honest customers

THE LUCKNOW Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) launches various drives and issues appeals to the consumers to enhance their electricity load. But when honest consumers volunteer to get their load increased and approach LESA offices, they are asked to pay bribe for job!

Dr PK Gupta, who runs a pathology lab near the PGI, is one those consumers who have a very bitter experience. Responding to an appeal issued by LESA, Gupta applied for enhancement of his power connection (034389) load from 5 kw to 15 kw and submitted the requisite papers at LESA’s Indralok office nearly two months ago. But he was not given a receipt. He also did not get the estimate detailing the cost for load enhancement.

He alleged that whenever his peon visited the clerk concerned at the Indralok office they ask for money to prepare and give the estimate. “It is shocking that LESA babus are harassing a consumer who wants to add to the State exchequer by volunteering to get his power load enhanced,” he said.

However, Gupta has resolved not to grease anyone’s palms come what may. “I am impressed by the Hindustan Times’s campaign against bribe, which is to make people aware of the Right to Information Act-2005. I have resolved not to give bribe to get the load enhanced,” he said and demanded that corrupt LESA officers and clerks be exposed and punished.
