Life-time award for Rajinder Goel

Goel, the highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy history, has been named for the 'Ceat Domestic Cricket Award' for life-time achievement.

Rajinder Goel -- the highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy history -- has been named for the 'Ceat Domestic Cricket Award' for life-time achievement.

He will receive the award on February 6 at a function in Mumbai. The award consists Rs one lakh cash and a trophy.

The name of the former Haryana and North Zone spinner was recommended by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar from a list of cricketers who played domestic cricket with distinction.

Known as 'Mr Accurate,' Goel claimed a record 642 wickets in the Ranji Trophy.

He played in the shadow of Bishan Singh Bedi and could not don national colours during the hey deys of Indian spin. Gavaskar has paid tribute to Goel in his book 'Idols.'

Goel also served as Chairman of the BCCI's Junior National Selection Committee in the past.
