Lightning kills six in Sonebhadra

Six people died and eight sustained severe injuries as lightning struck at two different places in Sonebhadra district on Monday.

According to reports, five children died at Randah village of Babhani area in Sonebhadra district and eight people suffered injuries when lightning struck the area.

The deceased were identified as Dewanti (10), Manoj (eight), Dipak (eight), Ram Babu (eight) and Guddi (10).

One person identified as Bhagwan Dass (30) of Dumrah village and an ox died in lightning in a village under Windemganj police station.

Those who sustained severe injuries were identified as Dharma Singh (10), Sushma (seven), Mamta, Udai, Ram Khelawan (10), Ajay (eight), Sikander (eight), Tetari (50) and Rajkumar (10).

Reports said the villagers rushed the injured to the primary health centre in Babhani village. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Sources said that the condition of the injured was critical.

When contacted, SP (Sobebhadra) confirmed six deaths in lightning.

He said the lightning was reported at 2.30 pm. The district has been experiencing heavy rain for a few days.
