WATER RESOURCE Development Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan today discussed the issue of linking Parvati-Kalisindh and Chambal rivers to provide water in water-scarcity hit areas of two states.

In a meeting held today, Water Resource Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Anup Mishra and Sanwarlal Jaat discussed the issue in the presence of senior officials of two states. Different alternatives available for implementation of this project were discussed at the meeting.

It was unanimously decided at the meeting that a committee comprising chief secretaries, engineers-in-chief and chief engineers of both the states would be formed to thrash out financial and technical issues involved in implementation of the project. The committee will present its report in 60 days.

Besides, the two sides agreed on starting work on Rs 540 crore World Bank-aided project for renewal and strengthening of Chambal canal.
