The biggest worry for the Delhi Daredevils is the below par showing of their stars this season. Despite two half-centuries, the team’s most expensive player Yuvraj Singh hasn’t done what was expected of him. Same is the case with Zaheer Khan.
Yuvraj has so far scored 205 runs with 57 being his best at an average of 18.63, which is far from satisfactory in T20 cricket. Zaheer has five wickets from as many matches against his name.
Opener Quinton De Kock did blame the middle-order flop for the team’s loss in the last match here, but said that a bad patch could affect any batsman in the world.
On Monday, assistant coach Praveen Amre too defended Yuvraj: “You people had a lot of expectations from Yuvraj, and I do believe that he has done pretty well for the side. It’s true that much more was expected from him.”
Before their last match of the season, an away one against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, the JP Duminy-led side has a last chance to play for pride before the home crowd when they square up against table toppers Chennai Super Kings at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
So far, young batsman Shreyas Iyer and skipper Duminy have done well in batting, but the form of the experienced Kedar Jadhav and Saurabh Tiwary against Sunrisers on Saturday must be a big boost for the side.
The MS Dhoni-led Super Kings won’t be taking the rivals lightly as they scored a thrilling one-run win against them in the season opener at Chennai. With little to lose, the Daredevils will try to put their best foot forward against the favourites, who will be looking to continue their winning streak.
