Remember the effervescent little kid, Vishal, in the 80s sitcom Dekh Bhai Dekh? Sunny Singh, now a strapping 23-year-old, will now be seen playing a 17-year-old school boy in his debut movie Paathshaala.
And the lad can’t hide his excitement at having worked with actor Shahid Kapoor in his debut. “I can’t wait for the film to release,” he says. Recent media reports claimed that Sunny was having problems with Shahid stealing his limelight in the film. However, the newbie denies any such issue and says he has no qualms about his role in the film. “I am extremely fond of Shahid Kapoor. He’s my idol, and I am super excited about sharing screen space with a star like him in my debut film.”
Son of ace jingle composer Vijay Singh, and with three elder sisters (Tanya, Sanyukta and Natasha) who have been models and actresses, Sunny had no dearth of inspiration at home. In fact, his youngest sister Natasha played his cousin in Dekh Bhai Dekh. He says he first faced camera as a toddler in a Leo Toys ad. He later did a few films, too.
In fact, it was while shooting for English Babu Desi Mem that Sunny gave his heart to actress Sonali Bendre. “I was barely 8-9 years old and Sonali was too sweet. I developed a deep crush on her. She said that I resembled her nephew and I would sit in her make-up room. She would give me fruits to eat and thoroughly spoilt me,” reveals Sunny with a hearty laugh.
Post Paathshaala, the young actor has been signed by director Priyadarshan for his next project. He is looking for a girlfriend right now. “I am single and I’m looking for someone understanding and confident about herself, me and the relationship,” he says.
