While political parties tried to cash in on the riot-hit Muzaffarnagar, it was the common people who suffered as they were confined to their homes for more than 48 hours.

On Monday, officials gave no indication of relaxing the curfew imposed on Saturday evening in Nai Mandi, Kotwali and Civil Lines police station areas of the city.

All markets and medical stores are closed in the city area since past two days depriving patients and sick persons of medicines.

“My daughter requires medicines for her transplanted kidney and she has not got it for two days now,” said Irsaad, a resident of Khalapar area, adding that people are in deep trouble due to no relaxation in curfew, as many are running short on grocery and fodder for their animals.

I have been forced to feed my two goats leaves of the guava tree in my courtyard, said Irsaad.

Latafat, a resident of Shamli gate area, too complained of non-availability of milk and other commodities of daily use. “We are bound to live a cursed life in curfew,” he said demanding relaxation in the curfew for few hours so that people could buy essential commodities and medicines.

Sripal Rathi, a public school teacher, said the sudden imposition of curfew had left no chance for people to buy things of daily use and now they have been confined to their houses for more than 48 hours.

“The administration should ensure speedy restoration of peace and harmony in the area so that people could live a normal life again,” he said.

An attendant in a city-based hotel, Kapil Sharma, said, “We are not able to procure milk and vegetables for our guests.”
