SIMMERING DISCONTENT among trade unions over the lockout in LML was clearly evident when hundreds of enraged LML employees staged a demonstration at the labour commissioner’s office, here on Monday.

Trade union leaders of CITU, AITUC, LIC, EPF Staff Association and Kanpur Municipal Corporation also took part in the agitation.

Expressing their resentment, the agitators demanded the lockout be declared illegal. Trade union leaders also took umbrage to the undue delay in the registration of the newly constituted LML Limited Mazdoor Union.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, senior CITU leader Arvind Kumar said, “The labour office cannot remain a mute spectator to the illegal lockout in LML.”
He asserted that the role of registrar of Trade Unions in delaying the registration of newly former LML Limited Mazdoor Union was also under scanner.

“By this agitation, a warning is being issued to the labour commissioner and the registrar of Trade Unions to declare the lockout as illegal and ensure the registration of LML Limited Mazdoor Union,” stated Kumar.

He said that if the demands were not met, the trade unions would be forced to hold a demonstration on a larger scale in the city for which the labour office would be solely responsible. Senior trade union leader Hari Singh accused the labour office and registrar of Trade Unions for acting at the behest of LML management.
