Parzaan Dastur, the four-year-old who left home for jalebis over a decade ago and melted hearts in 1998 as a seven-year-old in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, is all grown up. Now 17, he is all set to appear in Piyush Jha’s Sikander opposite Ayesha Kapoor (the child actor in Black). In Sikander Parzaan explores his abilities as an actor, as he plays a small town boy in Kashmir whose life is altered dramatically when he finds a stray gun.
“In Sikander I have a lot of screen time, which will give my career a boom. Piyush [the director] liked my performance in Parzania and contacted me in 2007 for this role. That’s how it happened.” Still unsure about his future plans, he says he’s keen on being an executive with a big multinational firm or a musician.
“I believe in destiny... I will do movies but my studies are most important. I’d like to do a management course in the future and I also play the piano and compose my own music... so, you never really know, I might even become a musician.” Though he took a break from films to study, he says Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol remembered him throughout. I had a small cameo in Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham, SRK saw me on the sets and instantly called me by name and asked me how I was doing. I was touched.”
