Lovers bearing the brunt of social disapproval is Bollywood staple. But a woman summoning her lover to his death could be a new twist for the silver screen.

That was exactly what happened in Dehri — a town in Rohtas district, 163km from Patna.

A 19-year-old girl’s love affair with college student Aakash Kumar ended with his death on Wednesday at the hands of her father and a lynch mob.

The girl had called Kumar to her home on the pretext of talking about their future, said Manu Maharaj, superintendent of police, Rohtas. Once he came, her relatives ambushed the unsuspecting youth. They thrashed him, threw him outside and raised an alarm, saying he was a thief.

“Following a statement from the girl, we have arrested her father and two other relatives, who have confessed to their role in the murder,” said Maharaj.

Kumar’s father, bus conductor Pravin Kumar, was distraught. “I was educating my son with great difficulty. With his death, our dreams have turned to ashes,” he said.
