The husband of a national-level shooter who is facing charges of domestic abuse, deceit and exploitation was arrested in Delhi by a joint team of Ranchi and Delhi Police on Tuesday.
In her FIR, Tara Shahdeo accused her husband RS Kohli alias Rakibul Hussain of domestic abuse saying he was forcing her to convert to Islam.
"A special team arrested Kohli alias Rakibul Hussain on the borders of Delhi-Ghaziabad. He will be brought to Ranchi by Air India [flight] tomorrow," inspector general of police Anurag Gupta said in Ranchi.
Gupta said police has seized a laptop and money from Kohli.
Ranchi superintendent of police Anoop Birtharay said that Shahdeo married Kohli with her consent on July 7 this year and that Kohli had started believing in Islam only recently.
Shahdeo, who displayed her shooting medals before the media, further alleged that she came to know about her husband's faith only after their wedding and was being forced to keep quiet about it.
Shahdeo said Kohli started assaulting her two days after their wedding and allowed her to leave their house only once, on the day of Rakhi.
The shooter said she was able to text her family only on August 19 when she got an opportunity after she was taken to Delhi.
The issue has gained political overtones in Jharkhand and a bandh called by Hindutva organisations on Monday saw widespread violence in Ranchi.
The police have since sealed Kohli's house and seized his cars.
