The LTTE killed two members of the "Sri Lankan paramilitary" and took one into custody in the Vadamunai jungle of the eastern district of Batticaloa on Saturday, its military spokesman Rasaiah Ilanthirayan told Hindustan Times.
Ilanthirayan said that the group was ambushed when it infiltrated the area held by the LTTE.
The LTTE uses the term "paramilitary" to describe the Karuna group as well as other Tamil militant groups presently working with the Sri Lankan Security Forces. However, in the context of the eastern districts of Batticaloa and Amparai, the term refers specifically to the Karuna group.
Karuna was the local commander of the LTTE before he defected in March 2004.
