LIKE UNDERGRADUATE, the number of seats for various Post Graduate courses of Lucknow University and affiliated degree colleges would also be increased.
A meeting of all deans of LU has been convened on Tuesday to take the final decision in this regard. The PG seats could be raised by 15 pc to 25 pc depending upon the infrastructure available in respective departments.
The seat increase, sources said, for practical subject will be up to 15 pc while for the non-practical subjects, it will not exceed 25 pc. Sources said the varsity has decided to raise the number of PG seats after getting a circular from the government. However, it is not binding on the LU to increase the seats.
On Tuesday, varsity officials would deal with the PG courses that are running at LU and on Wednesday, LU has convened a meeting of the principals of the degree colleges to work out how many seats could be raised in the degree colleges. LU officials reiterated that seat increase would be effected only in those subjects where there is adequate infrastructure.
However, the senior teachers of LU are not very happy with the idea as they reckon that quality of higher education will suffer with increased strength. They suggested that LU administration should take up the issue of paucity of teachers and infrastructure with the government officials rather than blindly adopting any GO related to seat increase.
