A local court has sent a man arrested on charges of helping a Pakistani spy to police custody till August 27.
Aslam alias Bunty Jahagirdar, arrested on August 13 at Manmad about 110 kms from Nasik, was sent to police remand by the court on Monday, for allegedly helping a Pakistani spy Arif Lakhani.
Bunty is a resident of Shrirampur taluka in Ahmednagar district and was arrested for allegedly assisting Lakhani, from whose possession classified documents, floppies, CDs and maps, were recovered on August 2.
Lakhani was arrested at Manmad railway station, when he was proceeding by Goa Express. Activists of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, (MNS) floated by Raj Thackeray pelted stones on the car of advocates Roman Jahagirdar and Haji Nijam Babumia, who are defending the accused Bunty Jahgirdar and Lakhani.
Bunty was arrested after Arif revealed his name during interrogation, police added. Lakhani was interrogated by officials various intelligence agencies and top police officials, sources said.
A 76-year-old retired army jawan and three others were also interrogated after the arrest of Lakhani. With the arrest of Bunty total number of arrests in the case has gone upto two, police added.
