While the civic authorities are still to act on the proposal, private developer DLF is set to introduce high-tech sweeping machines for city roads.
The developer has identified the Phase 5 area to launch the heavy duty mobile dust absorber machine that will clean a nearly 8-kilometre stretch. "We will acquire the machine, Max Sweep, from a Ludhiana-based company and automated cleaning shall begin in 1-2 months," said Aakash Ohri, director of DLF Golf Resorts Limited. The Phase V area falls under his set of responsibilities.
Ohri said the Rs 40-lakh machine was chosen after national and international companies made a presentation for the contract.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), which recently conducted trial runs for such automated dust cleaners, is in the process of acquiring them. MCG joint commissioner YS Gupta said, "A committee has been setup and it will invite tenders from firms. The project will take off after we decide on the best available technology."
The MCG has identified 24 roads in the city that will be swept by hi-tech machines every night. Nearly 46 kilometres will be cleaned using the technology. Such machines are already being used in Delhi.
