Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra pleaded with the judge on Tuesday not to send him to CBI custody again as the sleuths were ‘killing him mentally’. The gloomy minister made a fervent pitch on his health grounds but the court did not grant him reprieve, sending him back to CBI custody till December 19.
The minister also alleged that CBI is also coercing him to ‘admit’ that CM Mamata Banerjee took money.
“I am a psychiatric patient and two doctors of the institute of psychiatry are treating me. They (CBI officers) are killing me mentally... Please don’t send me back to police custody. I will die there,” Mitra pleaded.
After a 90-minute hearing, additional chief judicial magistrate, Haradhan Bandyopadhyay, sent him to police custody again till December 19.
“During these four days the sleuths didn’t ask me a single question. Four CBI officers just sat in front of me for hours in turn covering their face with black cloth. They are pressurizing me to cough up the names of my party leaders. Sometimes several cops are barging into the room and shouting at me. They are threatening me with dire consequences if I don’t take the name of Mamata Banerjee,” Madan told the court.
Claiming that he was suffering from health problems, Mitra also alleged that CBI sleuths were forcefully recording his voice and statements.
“We have taken his voice sample... The data reveals new facts that may divulge new names,” said the investigating officer of the case. The judge, however, rejected the CBI’s plea to take fresh voice samples.
