Curfew was relaxed in a staggered manner in Ratlam on Monday, two days after it was clamped following communal tension.

Curfew was relaxed from 2pm to 4pm for women and children in ward numbers 1-14, which are on the outskirts of the town. Later, it was relaxed from ward No 40 to 49 from 4.30pm to 6pm, for women. However, there was no relaxation in curfew in the station road area where the maximum trouble occurred.

Officials said the situation would be reviewed on Monday night.

Prices of essential items were at least 25% higher than normal but people had no choice but to buy them at a higher price.

Meanwhile, police sources said that they were close to nabbing the accused responsible for killing Bajrang Dal convenor Kapil Rathore and his servant Pukhraj. Kapil's brother Vikram was also injured in the attack.

Police sources further said the accused have been identified. Dispute over collecting illegal parking fee near Ratlam bus stop appears to be the main reason behind the murder. A few people have been rounded up in this connection, sources said. However, no senior officer was willing to come on record.
