Madhya Pradesh bureaucracy has the highest number of women IAS officials in the country with a figure of 55 out of 298, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 54 out of 382.
The strength of the Madhya Pradesh IAS cadre was revised to 369 a few years back. But at present only 298 are working in the state.
Describing it as an achievement, state Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni said “it is really a matter of pride for the State to have such a large number of women officers.”
MP’s women IAS officers are not only doing excellent job here but are also bringing laurels for the State when working on deputation at the Centre, he said.
“If the number of lady IAS officers in Madhya Pradesh is maximum in the country, it is by default not design,” said Additional Chief Secretary, Ranjana Choudhary, the senior most lady IAS officer working as Agriculture Production Commissioner.
She told Hindustan Times that though gender does not make a difference in the IAS, she said it was her personal experience over the 35 years or so that colleagues and staff were more supportive, cooperative and sympathetic to women officers.
