Madhya Pradesh: Woman dies at sterilisation camp, 2 hospitalised

One woman died while two others are undergoing treatment at Gwalior and Tikamgarh after their condition deteriorated following administration of injection prior to tubectomy surgery at the government health camp in Tikamgarh.

One woman died while two others are undergoing treatment at Gwalior and Tikamgarh after their condition deteriorated following administration of injection prior to tubectomy surgery at the government health camp organised at Palera government health centre in Tikamgarh on Thursday evening.

The family members of the deceased woman protested at the Tikamgarh collectorate on Friday morning. The three women were first rushed to Tikamgarh district hospital from where two of them were referred to Gwalior. On way, one of them died. Health department teams from Bhopal and Sagar have left for Palera, Tikamgarh, for inquiry.

According to information, female sterilisation camp was organised at Palera town's government health centre in which about 26 women were to be operated upon.

A total of 16 operations were completed. At this stage, three more patients Savita Ahirwar, 23, of Kalra village, Jasoda Kushwaha, 25, of Alampura village, Kapuri Yadav, 28, of Palera town, were administered injections that are given before the surgery.

Suddenly the condition of the women began to deteriorate and they started vomiting and complained of severe pain. The block medical officer (BMO) Dr CB Arya and surgeon Dr Mandvi Sahu provided treatment to the women, but they had to be rushed to Tikamgarh district hospital as their condition didn't improve.

At Tikamgarh hospital, Savita and Jasoda were referred to Gwalior in serious condition. However, Savita died on way. Chief medical and health officer Dr PK Jain said the matter is being investigated.
